Hey Everyone, hope you all had a good weekend.

One of the changes you’ll see with the revamp of my blog is Video Content, if you Follow my blog you’ll know I got a taste of the filming bug when I produced and presented the TV show: Fashion Special With Biki John for Silverbird TV.

Anyhoo, not too long ago, I shot a teaser for the 2 Naija Dance Fitness videos which will be published alongside the launch of my blog. Fitness/exercise ought to be part of our Lifestyle, and with my blog being a Fashion & Lifestyle blog, I’m excited to show you one of the ways I enjoy keeping fit.  Also in the Summer if I can get up to 6 people: I’ll be teaching a one-off Naija Dance Fitness Class at my favourite dance studio in Berlin.

I’m also really looking forward to shooting more video content and sharing with you what makes me tick via a different medium.

If you Like/Enjoy what you see, please leave a Comment in the Video Comment Box and feel free to Share.  You can watch the video here.

A Behind The Scenes Look at my Naija Dance Fitness Video

Ps I don’t quite understand what’s going on because a few weeks ago when I tried to upload a photo on my blog, I received a message stating I had reached my storage limit but lo and behold I was able to upload the picture above…speaking about blogs, my developer is having some issues with transferring all my old content on this blog to the new one and I’ll be Skyping him this week to see if he has sorted out the issue.

Have a good week all and I’ll be keeping you posted on how myfashionslashlife.com is coming along.

Should You Put Your Picture On Your Business Card?

Morning Ladies and Gentleladies, if you Follow my blog, you’ll see my posts have fizzled out lately. Well that’s for two reasons: I’ve used all 3.0GB of my 3.0GB Media Gallery limit and can’t publish any more photos/posts (Boooooo!) and I’m currently building a new home for my blog with a graphic and techie dude, yes, that’s right: I’m moving to .com land. (YaaaY!)

I’m anticipating I can launch my new blog in the next 2 weeks. As it goes with these things, after the Big Move, extra tweaks will still need to be done to my blog.

I’m very excited to see the final results and share them with all of you.  To coincide with the launch I’ll also be releasing my first blog video which I shot last weekend.

I’ll be sharing the video on my Facebook Page, so if you haven’t already Liked it, you can do so here.

I also got some new business cards last week, what do you think?

Flat Lay Business CardsIt was a big step for me to put my picture on my business card. I got the idea from some of the blogger/vlogger business cards I’ve received where their faces/style were emblazoned boldly on their cards.  If you go online there’s a big’ol divided debate on whether putting your image on your business card is a Yay or Nay.  As these cards are mainly to push my blog, I see these cards as part of my branding, so for me it’s a Hell Yay!

PS the above pic is my first attempt of a Flat Lay, and I’d like to thank Vanessa for her fab How To Flat Lay Like A Pro article which helped me with this photo.  I still have a long way to go with this whole Flat Laying thang. I already kinda went against the rules as I don’t have a white surface but hey, for now my floorboards will be my Flat Lay play ground…

Have a good week y’all!

IFB

You are ready. You’ve made plans. You’ve laid out your wardrobe. You’ve purchased gifts. {if you haven’t, see gift guides} But. But what? Something is missing. Oh yes, that’s right, significant other. One minor detail. However, IFB bloggers have you covered. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just about romance, but a love for all of the favorite people in our lives. This week there is a  lovely assortment of gift guides and ways to celebrate this love holiday.

Valentine’s Day also became a theme to draw inspiration from for a creative story and photoshoot. Not your average blog post and something to consider when you are stuck for a topic. Also, interviews with a boss lady, a stylist, and a retailer give insight to their climb to expert status. That along with a list of blogger style icons give encouragement and, I hope, motivation in the business of blogging.

And no round-up would be complete without favorite fashion trends. Skinny scarves, monochromatic dressing, and the color yellow are all shared. All of which are worn to make an impression. Check out an in depth look into Marc Jacob’s recent ad campaign. Also, the first post with a glimpse into New York Fashion Week. It’s finally here, and I can’t wait to see what strikes you all.

So, whether you are spending it with your significant other, bestie, child, or watching Netflix with Mr. Ben and Mr. Jerry, let Valentine’s Day be a day to remember those we cherish. I will be making valentine’s and watching Masha and the Bear with a four year old.

I’m in Berlin for a New York Minute and to celebrate the launch of my blog’s Facebook Page, I’m doing a Blog Giveaway: WoooHoooo!  What’s up for grabs?  A statement and timeless Ankara print clutch bag, set of bracelets and Ankara print notebook (with lined paper) I got from Lagos.

Ankara Print Clutch

Nigerian Street StyleI could have taken still-life images of the clutch and bracelets but I decided to style them on myself to give my readers an idea of how wearable these pieces are- even for those who are not enjoying a warm climate at the moment.  Due to Ankara print pieces being heavily in vogue during the Spring/Summer season, it’s often seen as a seasonal trend, but this is not the case: with the appropriate styling, these pieces can be worn all year round. Write That Down.

Ankara Print Clutch

Tribal Print CulottesThis Ankara print clutch will be a staple piece in your wardrobe because  prints are never going to go out of style and this handmade graphic print clutch will add a dash of pizzazz to your ensemble.

Ankara Print ClutchAnd for those of you who like to stack your bangles ye high, I’ve got some Army Candy treats for you:

Bohemian BraceletsTo be fully part of the Ankara Print Brigade, you must have the print emblazoned on more than just your accessories, the colourful patterns should adorn your homeware, furniture, stationary…but it’s best to start small and build up.  And to get you started, I’ve thrown in this eye-catching handmade Ankara print notebook with lined paper for good measure!

Independent Fashion Bloggers, The Links à la Mode Weeky Roundup

ifbConfession. I was seduced… by 38 posts this go round. 38! And as seduction would have it, my head was spinning trying to reduce that number to the standard 20. Many of you confessed your own seductions, which ran the gamut. Fall boots, an intriguing invitation, a city, a country, a seductive look of years past… and by Fashion in general.

Trends seducing IFB Bloggers right now are culottes {Never thought seducing and culottes would be in the same sentence, but there you have it}, cropped sweatshirts and sweaters, flannel, burgundy and mustard hues, and saddle bags to name a few.

Other themes of seduction included New York Comic-Con, photography tips, lessons on a couple decades, how to get an internship, history of one of the most seductive shoes, Halloween costuming and… a cocktail. There were also two thought provoking posts on diversity within the fashion and blogging worlds.

Now, just so I’m clear on the subject, where do you think seduction ends and stalking begins? I can only conclude from reviewing A Handful of Stories post that the gloves come off for seduction and stay on for stalking.

Independent Fashion Bloggers, The Links à la Mode Weeky Roundup

ifbIFB Bloggers are from all over the world, different walks of life and ethnic backgrounds, varying ages and body types, etc.  Your common thread?  Perspective.  You share your perspective on beauty; how you see and feel beauty.  You inspire and give hope to others from your differences and individual perspective.  Yes, I swear I am still talking about fashion.

This weeks links share perspective on dressing over 40, petite fashion, Summer on budget and not on budget, and incorporating heritage fashions while staying true to personal style.  There are also a couple in depth posts reviewing the current ad campaign season, and a look into Ukraine’s fashion industry from the perspective of a designer.

… and for the sewing savvy {and not so savvy}, a DIY Caftan!

Learning à la Mode

The thing I love most about fashion blogging is that it’s rarely only about clothes. It’s about the cultural traditions behind an outfit, using your creativity to create a whole new look, or to discover the real personalities behind style icons. This week’s roundup is enlightening in so many ways. We learned that Nigerian women really know how to do it up for weddings, that two skirts worn together can look very chic, that Anna Wintour is lovely during an interview (and might even tell you your second-hand dress is pretty), how to survive a shopping break… read on for these educational tidbits and so much more!

My Interview With MoveBackToNigeria.Com

Advice On Moving Back To Nigeria?, MBTN Interviews, MBTN.Com, MoveBackToNigeria Interviews, MoveBackToNigeria.com, Should I Move Back To Nigeria?

MBTN.com

MBTN.com

So what is ‘MoveBackToNigeria’, or as they are commonly known, MBTN?  In 2012, MoveBackToNigeria was founded by Adabara Abdullahi and has become the foremost and fastest growing network of Nigerian professionals in the diaspora.  Their objective is to connect Nigerian professionals, businesses and investors with the various opportunities in Nigeria (and the diaspora), ranging from strategic recruitment drives to investor outreach programmes, relocation information, financial advice, real estate and more.

When I was in Lagos last December, I attended one of their networking functions.  The event had been advertised as a means for Nigerians abroad, who were interested in relocating to come together and network.  MBTN had also arranged for guest speakers to attend, which consisted of people who had successfully transitioned into their current jobs in Nigeria, as well as recruiters and an accommodation agency.

But here’s the thing- I know a SpeedDating event when I see one! A bunch of eligible men rounded up in an event who at the very least would have schooled in top schools abroad, thrown in with an MBA for good measure???!!!  That’s the kind of ‘Good On Paper’ credentials Mama likes to read!  So what do I do in the days leading up to the D-Day?  I buy a new dress and book a Make Up session of course, in the words of TuPac, ‘Mama didn’t raise no fool…’!!

Fast forward to the evening of the function, and as I predicted, the initial few seconds weren’t easy: I remember opening the door hesitantly and meeting a sea of unfamiliar faces sat down on various tables all staring at me…but as the night went on, I really had such a good time.  It was great to perfect my networking skills (which is an art form indeed!) and hear about other people’s success stories weaved in with horrific tales, that are typical of Nigeria/Nigerians! For instance, a man regaled us with the incident of how he had his deposit and rent money stolen by his landlord!!

At the end of the night, I was chatting with the CEO & Founder of MBTN and upon hearing my story he asked me whether MBTN could interview me.  I was very surprised and had replied, ‘You do know that I live and work in Nigeria, but I also spend few months in the year working abroad as well. Do I still qualify?’

He replied in the affirmative, and without further ado here is the interview.

Do let me know what you think!

Thanks MBTN, I have come to treat your online resource as an important survival and learning guide, so to be featured and share my experience with others is an honour.

Whether you love Valentine’s Day or HATE it… my experience is that having someone to call a “Valentine” doesn’t really make that much a difference on the love of the holiday itself.
